“I must follow my impulses...” — Guido Guerra

Guido Guerra V was one of The Damned which Dante must punish or absolve for "The Damned" achievement/trophy. He was encountered in the circle of Violence among the Abominable Sands.

Description[]

"Wise warrior and leader of the Guelphs who enveloped himself in sodomy and the blood of men."

Background[]

Very little is known of the historic Guido Guerra, save that he was a Florentine nobleman and a warrior of the Guelph faction. As such, his condemnation by Dante Alighieri for the sin of sodomy is not supported by any historical data.

Dialogue[]

"... there is no rest for me..."

"...why do my thoughts keep me awake at night? Are they perverse?"

"In Montevarchi, I fear I will meet my death..."

"I must follow my impulses..."

"Ah, so many fruits of pleasure... ah, oh!"

"There are no rules during wartime..."

"Strip the prisoners; bury them alive!"

"They will never see their Arezzo again!"

"... we will not tend to their wounded."

"Slit their throats; take their arms and possessions! Hahaha!"

"I was rewarded generously for my victories..."

"...Mayor of Lucca and Captain of the Holy See..."

*Grabbed by Dante* "Living being, shelter me..."

*Grabbed by Dante* "Do not feel contempt for my plea."

*Grabbed by Dante* "My fame should make you cower, mortal!"

*Grabbed by Dante* "All of Florence celebrates my name!"

"No! I fought..." *Slain by Dante*

*Absolved by Dante* "Prosperity in abundance!"

Trivia[]

  • In The Inferno, as Dante and Virgil cross the burning sands of the seventh circle, Guido Guerra is one of three sodomites who address themselves to Dante. As he speaks with Dante, Guerra's companion, Jacopo Rusticucci, blames his wife for his sin of sodomy.
